Summer Reading Program 2018
We are in the works of planning our summer reading program for 2018 in which we will purchase a book for all students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade to take home, read, and return in the fall. They will complete a postcard after reading the book which has questions on it and return the postcard to school. Students can also stop by the school during the summer to pick up additional postcards to fill out for each additional book they read over the summer. Each postcard that is completed and returned will enter the child in a drawing for prizes. We will also offer times for the students and parents to participate in the books being read aloud during the summer on Tuesdays.
Read Aloud Tuesdays
We hope that you will join us on Tuesdays at 11:30 am at the school for read aloud Tuesdays. We will have readers for each grade 3rd through 6th. Readers in those rooms will be reading the one required book each week. Students in second grade and lower along with parents and younger siblings are encouraged to some to the media center for a read aloud time. The read aloud time will last approximately 20 minutes. Following the read aloud time, the school media center will be open for check out. At noon on Tuesdays, we will offer lunch in the cafeteria. We hope that you will join us our Read Aloud Tuesdays!
Students can pick up additional postcards with the generic questions for additional books that they read at the Yadkinville Public Library, Yadkinville YMCA, or Yadkinville School. You can also print off the questions and write them on your own notecard or sheet of paper from the summer reading website. The postcards/questions can be returned to the same locations or returned to school in August on the first two days of school.
We can still use donations of prizes and if you are interested in reading to the students on Tuesday, please contact the school or email Tammy.Poindexter@yadkin.k12.nc.us
